Hi Hart Beat. How’s your Wednesday night? It’s been a while since I’ve written about my beautiful neighborhood in Brooklyn, and since I’ll be leaving the lovely Greenpoint for a few weeks, I thought I would share a few new finds that I’ve been loving lately. (Really my goal here is to make you fall in love with Greenpoint as much as I do.)
The three places that I want to share with you are so Hart Beat appropriate that I wish I could just take you to them and show you. The only way I can explain my love is that if somehow I were reincarnated in a bar, restaurant, or coffee shop, these three would be the result. Weird, or endearing? You pick.
Why did I fall in love with Achille’s Heel? I honestly don’t even know where to start. What I first fell for was the secrecy of the place (which this blog post kind of ruins, whatever.) The bar is nestled out of the way of crowded Greenpoint and sits on the corner of West and Green Street, right on the water. The bar has kind of a nautical theme, and by nautical I mean it used to be an old fishing bar and still feels like it in the best way possible. It also has a feeling of being on the bayou (my favorite theoretical place ever). The cherry on top was that they served chilled red wine and it has the best romantic mood lighting I’ve seen in a while. Want to take me on a date here, Hart Beat?

Oh, this place. Papa Al and I just went to dinner here to discuss the last logistics of our trip to Spain. Hands down, now it’s our favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. And guess what! It’s right around the corner from Achille’s Heel on Franklin! Win for North Brooklyn and win Hannah Hart. The food is an amazing mix of Mediterranean, local, and delicious american bistro. After the waitress heard that my Dad and I were about to bike across Spain the kitchen sent us over a plate of prosciutto and the best oysters I’ve ever had. Restaurant win right there. They also carry Pais Vasco cider (the same drink I had to toast my 21st birthday in Bilbao.) Seriously, I think this restaurant was made for me.

Milk and Roses
Okay, full disclosure, I haven’t been here yet. DON’T TELL ANYONE. I’ve heard from multiple people that I really, really need to go and I’ve been weirdly obsessing over it for the last couple weeks. The bizarre part is I live right around the block on Manhattan Ave so I really just need to check it out myself. Apparently it’s a coffee shop that looks like a library inside and it has a garden out back. I envision El jardín secreto but with books. Life win right there, Hart Beat.

I can’t wait to tell you about a few more in a couple weeks, Hart Beat. I heard theres a real life lobster shack on the water on West Street. I’ve also been meaning to stop in at Permanent Records and a brand new beautiful plant store that opened up next to Latika Spa on Franklin…. Oh madre mia do I love this neighborhood.
