Madewell x Spotify Party

Hiya Hart Beat. How’s your night going? It’s been a crazy day and I’m only just now sitting down and catching up with my personal email and such. Lucky for you (and me) one of the emails I received an email about an event happening tomorrow night at the Madewell Williamsburg store. The brand is collaborating with Spotify (my fav) to host a listening party for three female singers that are working with Madewell right now. The artists, Sharon Van Etten, Lucius and Kelela each created a playlist under the Madewell Spotify account so you can hear what they’re listening to this spring.

And there’s even better news, Hart Beat. They’re not just hosting the event in Brooklyn! There will be listening parties all over the country tomorrow night and you can find the nearest one to you by just searching here.

From what I understand the event is just a shopping event where you can get tons of perks like 60 days of free Spotify premium and a Bien Fait tote bag. What I think is pretty cool is that each event is collaborating with a smaller event company, blog or whatever. The one in Williamsburg will be working with the Greenpoint based Local Creative and that is pretty cool.

There are days where I love Madewell and there are days that I don’t. For starters, it’s a huge conglomerate of a company that tries to sell itself as being indie and a small business while actually driving independent, small businesses out of neighborhoods. On the other hand, I love their clothes.. Not sure how I feel about this dilemma, Hart Beat. Either way I’m going to try to make it out for the event tomorrow night (if only for the free tote bag.)

TGIF

Oh Hart Beat, happy Friday afternoon. I am so excited for the weekend to relax, spend some time outside, and see my friends. Last night C. and I went to one of my favorite bars in Williamsburg, Cafe Colette, and I realized it had been so long since I’ve been out of the house (stupid cold).

Anyway, here’s a baller song for your Friday. I can’t wait to listen to it as I walk out of work today.

“Otis” by the one and only Kanye and Jay Z.

Photographer Anna Li

Hi Hart Beat, happy Monday! This morning I want to share some beautiful photographs by Brooklyn based photographer Anna Li. I came across the artist during my usual scouting of the internet and since I haven’t been able to find much about the Anna Li to share with you. Her tumblr site showcases most of her work and her twitter is the best way I’ve found to contact her. Aren’t these amazing, Hart Beat?

Fall braids

Hey Hart Beat. Over the weekend while working at the Williamsburg market I notices many European tourists with elaborate hair braids. Since my hair has gotten super (too?) long I’m trying to adopt more of these intricate braids into my fall wardrobe. They’re tricky Hart Beat, but I think I’m up for the challenge. What do you think? What’s your favorite hair brad secret?

Oh Drew, you’re so pretty!

Swedish dreams

Hi Hart Beat. I’m sitting in my favorite Williamsburg coffee shop Konditori before work and am in a Swedish mood, whatever that means. Maybe it’s because I’m in a swedish coffee shop or because I’ve been seeing these babies all over Brooklyn lately.

When L. was here over the weekend we walked by a store in my neighborhood to see a row of Swedish Hasbeens perched along the window display. She knew as soon as she saw them that I wanted them. Oh L, how right you were. I have been debating getting a pair for a while now and the only thing holding me back is the idea that I’ll be immersed in Spanish espadrille land in two weeks. Must resist… for now.

Friday night in Williamsburg

Good morning Hart Beat. How was your Friday night? My roommate Hannah and I had a fun time in Williamsburg and I wanted to share some pictures with you all out there in the internet world. My amazing friend M. from study abroad now lives on the lower east side with a good friend and last night her roommate Morgan preformed her senior year dance piece at Public Assembly. I had seen her piece, “Last Chance for Bronze,” preformed by Morgan and others at Conn College last spring and I was so excited to hear that she was preforming it again in the city.

The piece is beautiful and emotional and Morgan preforms it with such talent that I was honored to see it again. I didn’t have my camera on my but here are some pictures I snapped on my iphone. Thank you so much Morgan for the show!

P.S. Then Hannah and I stumbled into a Rod and Gun meeting/concert/apartment party. I was just like being back in Maine at Bates. That with a little Bass Pro Shop thrown into the mix. Oh Brooklyn, I love you.

Wes Anderson date

The other day was my roommate G.’s birthday and to celebrate, the two of us went to this amazing event at a place close by to our apartment. Videology on South 1st in Williamsburg is this super cool bar/video rental place/screening room. They have all these events where they project movies (usually cult favorites) in their back room for free and let everyone who shows up drink and watch.

This past Tuesday was Wes Anderson Bingo night and so G. and I happily braved the cold to watch “Moonrise Kingdom.” I had seen this movie when I was visiting Madrid over the summer, and even though it was really fun to see dubbed in Spanish sitting next to a group of Señoras, Bill Murray, Francis McDormand and the rest of the crew really aren’t that funny without their original voices. This time it was great to see it in english, and in Brooklyn.

“We’re in love. We just want to be together.
What’s wrong with that?”
