My Weekend on a Maine Island

Hey Hart Beat. I hope your Wednesday is going well. I’m on my lunch break and though I’d share some photos with you from this past Memorial Day Weekend. As I mentioned last week, my college roommate and I joined my family on an island in Maine where my Grandmother has a summer house. It was such a beautiful weekend, Hart Beat. The island was just opening for the summer (they turn the water off in the winter) and a bunch of families made the trek north to enjoy the sunny weather.
The entire weekend we spent wandering around the small island, visiting friends, looking out at the water and hanging out with my mom’s new puppy. She had been looking at australian labradoodle puppies for a while and she finally decided to get one. He’s in a bunch of the photos below, I can’t get enough. I hope you like the pictures and that they give you a little boost this cold and dreary Wednesday.
Me and James, chillin’ on the South Shore.
I want dis house.
The cove and Bobby’s lobster boat.

One of my favorite rooms on the Island, the library children’s section.
This was my jam when I was growing up.
My mom brought her new Labradoodle puppy up to the island. James is about 8 months old so he’s still getting used to being off leash and playing with other dogs. He had the best time! There were so many other family dogs running around that he got to make so many friends. Getting a puppy was a great idea for mom. She spent ages learning about them on websites like zooawesome.com and the puppy adores her too! It’s so cute! Buying a puppy can be expensive but I think they’re worth every penny. You’ll have to pay for vet bills, hair cuts and pet food so the costs can quickly add up. That said, my friend uses pet food coupons which makes looking after her many pets a bit cheaper!! Below are some of the best puppy play dates.
C. playing with James and another Labradoodle Griffin. HEAVEN.
James! Follow Daisy!

Dreams do come true.

The island pump where you can get crystal clear water.
P.S. James is there drinking from the special dog bowl.

Travel Dreams: American Road Trip

I’ve done a couple of travel posts over the months and tonight I want to highlight a favorite photographer or mine Missy Prince. The photographer highlights scenes throughout rural America, places that I always dream of seeing on a cross country road trip. I love that Ms. Prince can take us through places that I can only imagine. All, and more, of Missy Prince’s photographs can be found on her website.

Sail away with me honey

Hi Hart Beat. I’ve been doing some day dreaming lately and I thought I would let you join me. A friend of mine is spending the fall and winter sailing up and down the east coat in his new (old) boat. I’ve been trying to find a time to join in on the fun and after hearing that he’s going to the Caribbean this winter I think I might have made my decision. So, what does this mean for you Hart Beat? It means that today we’re going sailing… on the blog.

I know this is not what the boat looks like but a girl can dream.

Travel Dreams: Portugal

Yesterday at the market the sweetest couple came in to visit. They were traveling New York on vacation from Lisbon, Portugal and as soon as I found out I couldn’t stop talking to them about the city and Portugal in general. It sounds amazing, and now I’m travel crazy for going there. I know this summer I’m going back to Spain (rough life, I know) but next time I cross the Atlantic I really want to explore Portugal. The couple showed me pictures and it looks absolutely beautiful. Plus it’s so close to my favorite country in the whole world, so how can it be bad?

How about you, Hart Beat? You ever wanted to go to Portugal? It sounds like such a romantic country and I would love to go there someday… soon.

All the photos here were taken by my amazing friend, Marina Gluckman in 2011. Thank you so much Marina!

I can’t even handle how beautiful these pictures are, Marina, you are so talented.

Last Stop: Spain

I can’t believe this is my last travel post from the European trip. I decided to group the last couple of weeks together on the blog. After staying in Marseilles C. and I made our way to Barcelona, Spain. We were in Barcelona for a weekend and then C. made her way home and I traveled alone in Spain. These pictures are all taken in Barcelona, Valencia and finally, Madrid.

A photo I took while in Madrid last year.

As many of you loyal blog readers know, I spend a semester in Madrid during my Junior year. While I was there I had some of the best times and I was unbelievably excited to not only be back in Spain, but back in my favorite city in the world. For this reason I hardly took any photos while in Spain, I guess I felt like I was finally home.

Stop Nine: Marseilles

Hola todos! Guess what? I am an official San Francisco blog writer now. It’s too bad that I haven’t been able to  explore the area very much and I don’t have too many new things to show you. My friend L. in the city did take me to an amazing Birmese restaurant which I can recommend to everyone reading this blog here.

On another note, here are more pictures from my last trip. All of these were taken while C. and I were staying in Marseilles, France and the surrounding area.
