Hiiiiii Hart Beat! It is hot hot hot here in Brooklyn. I mean, of course it is, it’s July. We’re in the weeds of summer and other than escaping to Rockaway or the Berks every weekend I’ve also been day dreaming of a cool, bright and airy apartment. So, in that vain here are a few things that I have on my summer wish list. Oh, and did I mention I’m obsessed with the color blush?
Stonewashed linen sheets from Hawkins New York at Food52
Naked color nail polish from Deborah Lippman.
The bucket bag that has been on my wish list for about six months now. In rosa obviously 💃
My favorite copper and white metallic Berkinstocks. (I have these but they’re worth mentioning because they are honestly SO COMFORTABLE.)
This blush jumpsuit. Too much? Not enough?

Hi Hart Beat! Let’s talk smells… or a more eloquent way of saying it, let’s talk summer fragrances!
The other day my friend Marina emailed me saying that she had found her summer spirit animal in smell form. It made me think about how hard it is to sometimes find real recommendations for scents. The first time I tried to find one on my own I remember I went into a french perfume store and was overwhelmed by the options and smells. And this was in France, where you think it would be easy to find a nice scent.
The best way I know is through recommendations and so, I went straight to the source. I texted my beautiful best friends from high school to see what they like and pulled together of everyone’s favorites.
Hiii Hart Beat. How was your weekend? It is hotter as bejesus in New York today and I am so glad that my new sandals just arrived to the office. I guess summer got here early. Since I’m subscribed to about one hundred newsletters for my job (research, research, research) I was super excited to get the new Everlane one in my inbox this morning.
Exciting news from them, Hart Beat! A few new silk dresses are available! I don’t know how comfortable I am wearing silk in the summer (hello sweat stains) but this dress looks too good to pass up. I think I might have to break down tonight when I get home. It is treat yoself Monday? Right?

Hi Hart Beat! Happy warm day in New York! I stayed in Greenpoint last night and woke up to the most beautiful view of the Manhattan skyline. Then I walked outside and was like woah, SUMMER YOU ARE HERE. To celebrate this week I’m going to finally break down and buy my first real adult sunglasses (aka not a pack of these plastic imposters that Carolyn and I ordered freshman year of college).
For a while I had an amazing pair of Persol sunglasses that my mom gave me but to be honest Hart Beat, I have zero idea where they went. I can’t for the life of me find the same pair so over the weekend I was thrilled to see my friend Marina wearing an awesome pair that she picked up at Warby Parker. They look amazing and, as Marina praised, they are polarized. Plus all of their frames are under $100 and as someone who has lost favorite sunglasses before… this is also a game changer.
There are so many frames that I’m going to have to make my way over to the Soho store to try them on in person. All I know is that I want tortoise shell print, I want them comfortable and I want them now (Parks and Recs reference anyone?)
Choice #1. The Reilly.
Choice #2. The Downing.
Choice #3. The Cliff.
P.S. My other dream pair. If only I could rationalize buying them, too.

Bonjour Hart Beat. It was such a nice day in Brooklyn today! I biked down to Williamsburg this afternoon to spend some time in my favorite coffee shop and got to hang out with this cool cat. It rained so hard that the place was packed and I was glad to make my way back to sleepy Greenpoint. But Hart Beat, question: HOW DO I DEAL WITH THIS HUMIDITY. It seams early in the year for this problem, don’t you think. I trolled Pinterest and found some good options. Now all I have to do is become an expert hair designer. No big.
Oh hello, Hart Beat. Let’s talk about some French things this morning on the blog. Shall we?
For the past couple months my roommate and I have been complementing each other on our outfits by telling each other how French the other looks. It’s great. I mean, who doesn’t want to embody the effortlessly chic, carefree and natural way French ladies do?
I’ve been finding so many French clothing brands, ba&sh
and 5 Octobre
being a few, to inspire the new France inspired fashion love going on at our India Street apartment. Today I want to talk about another discovery for your French fashion cravings. Sessùn is an all women’s clothing line created by Emma François that is sold by a handful of same-name boutiques in Europe. Lucky for us, Hart Beat,
Sessùn’s collection is also sold on their online store. One thing that I love about
Sessùn is Miss. François origins as an Anthology major. I love seeing other Liberal Arts majors taking the fundamentals they learned in school and applying them to small businesses and the arts (Spanish Literature major over here).
It was in South America that Emma François felt the turning point which foreshadowed a vocation. It was when she came into contact with people who weave, embroider, sew and make things, drawing unquestioningly on a heritage of techniques and know-how, that she finally understood what she had to do and found her own way, establishing Sessùn in 1995.
I love the simple and elegant pieces in the brand and the Spring/Summer 2014 line is on point. These photographs all come from the newest lookbook and I wish I could add all of them to my closet. Sessùn also curates a great blog that promotes the brand and inspiration for the designs that they create. Man do I wish I could read French.
Sessùn is a world of its own… poetic, cross-sectional, confidential… Sessùn is a way of living. Sessùn clothes are feminine and timeless with preppy influences and perfect cuts that produce a smart casual look with a cool attitude.
All photos from the lovely Sessùn.
Oh Hart Beat, it’s raining in Brooklyn. Horrible, cold rain. My bike hates it. In lieu of shivering from my ride tonight, I thought I would do some planning for my mom and my trip coming up this February. Have you seen the movie “The Talented Mr. Ripley“? I hadn’t seen it until recently and if you’re looking for a creepy, but intriguing movie that takes place in the most beautiful parts of Italy and has a cast that ranges from Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett, Jude Law to Philip Seymour Hoffman, and, of course, Gwyneth Paltrow then look no farther. I love her style in this movie. It’s the 90’s take on the 50’s wealthy american living in southern Italy in the best way possible.
And as an end note, this great behind the scenes photo from the movie…
Hi Hart Beat. I’m so happy right now. It’s finally raining in Brooklyn and I just had the nicest dinner with my oldest friend. Just falling in love with summer again over here in Brooklyn. I guess it happens to the best of us. So, in honor of this lovely summer night, I give to you…. outfit inspirations. Of course, what else would you expect to see here on Hart Beat on a Monday night?
