Dream Trip: Mexico City

HH

Hey Hart Beat! How’s your week going so far? It’s been a busy time this week and I don’t have a ton to write to you this week. Lo siento. I hope you won’t hate me forever, Hart Beat. Today I was to share with you some photos that I’ve been swooning over for a while.

One of my best friends Marina (who I met when studying abroad in Spain, FIJAOS), was lucky enough this summer to take a trip down to Mexico City with her dad. Marina’s dad is an architect and Marina herself works at an art gallery in New York so between the two of them, they knew the right beautiful places to visit. I asked Marina if I could share some of her photos on the blog here and, lucky you, she said yes!

I’ve traveled a few times to Mexico but all the times I went was way back in history when I was still in high school. I haven’t been back to the country in a while and now that I’m seeing these photos and hearing Marina’s rave reviews of the food, culture and pace of life I now know the next place I want to go. So Hart Beat, enjoy these beautiful photos this Thursday afternoon and give Marina a huge THANKS across the internets.

P.S. Marina visited Portugal a few years ago and shared them here on the blog as well!

Escaping the heat

Hola Hart Beat. I don’t know about where you’re reading this from but it is H.O.T in New York City this week. The temperatures have been in the 90’s feeling really like 100+ which is REALLY HOT. (Especially for me, the north country girl that I am.) So, in order to get some relief from the unbearable oppression that is the Manhattan asphalt with hot humid air whirling about, I’m making a trip up to the Berkshires for the next couple days while I have a few days off.

I need the mountain breeze, plus some mom time. How about you Hart Beat? How you holding up in this summer time heat wave?

Summer in the city

Hi Hart Beat. Happy summer solstice! I can’t believe it’s already here. Summer solstice this year is reminding me of so many things from last year at this time. The only thing that’s keeping me centered is the idea that I’ll be in Madrid in nine days.

I rediscovered this Regina Spektor song the other day and I thought you might like to hear it. I’ve been putting together a playlist for the ride over the atlantic and this is on it. You have any recommendations, Hart Beat?

And don’t get me wrong, dear,
in general I’m doing quite fine
It’s just when it’s summer in the city,
and you’re so long gone from the city
I start to miss you, baby, sometimes

Biking in Brooklyn

Hi Hart Beat. How was your Wednesday? I had today off so my Dad came into Brooklyn to go for another training ride for our trip this summer. It was amazing. I’m seriously in love with Brooklyn, Hart Beat. We rode from my neighborhood, Greenpoint, which is the most northern neighborhood, down to Prospect Park in central Brooklyn and then all the way south to the coast and the Atlantic Ocean.

It was amazing making our way to the boardwalk and coney island and I wish I had brought along my real camera to take pictures for you. These from my iphone will have to do…

A partial map of our ride. My neighborhood wouldn’t fit.
The arch in Prospect Park. It reminded me so much of Madrid.

The beach and the ocean.

Al soaking up the sun.
We did it.

The iconic view from my apartment. I can’t stop.

Romantic spring music

Hi Hart Beat. I hope spring wherever you are is as lovely as spring is here in New York. This nice weather has made me go back to playlists I made last year around this time for some spring music inspiration. Eric Church really knows his stuff. Here’s one for the new spring weather. It’s indie and it’s romantic, bam, two for one.

Darlin’ please come home
I’ve cleaned out the fridge
Wiped the counters off
And put away my clothes

Do you remember every block
Every minute of every walk we used to take
We were young, so many years ago
