Hi. How’s your night going, Hart Beat? It’s finally warmer here in Brooklyn tonight and I’m so thankful for that. Pedro and I drove up to Greenpoint tonight to get some of my things and I forgot how much I love driving past the Manhattan skyline at night.

For once in Hart Beat’s history, the song I’m sharing with you here is NOT about what’s going on in my life. Instead, it’s just a new track that I can’t stop listening to because of the amazing singer that is behind the song. Liza Anne, a Nashville based singer and songwriter, is a new artist to me but this song “Lost” is hauntingly beautiful and just the kind of thing that I love to listen over and over again to. I first heard her voice when her song “Room” was included in my favorite Austin 100 this year. Not only is the song amazing but the official video has a beautiful choreographed dance for the song. What do you think, Hart Beat? Are you as much of a fan as I am?

If it wasn’t for you, I’d be alone

This song, Hart Beat. THIS SONG. I can’t stop listening to it and I know each and everyone of you is going to like it as much as I do. I don’t know who Mapei is but I will love her forever if she keeps making music like this. “Don’t Wait” is exactly the song that I wanted to hear right now. Thank you universe.

The love club

Hi Hart Beat. One of my favorite bloggers and friends, Leah posted a song by the new artist Lorde a couple weeks ago. I love “Royals” and I wanted to share one of my other favorites by the artist. Her songs are so addicting. If you’ve been wondering what I’ve been listening to on the train here’s your answer. Happy October!

Be a part of the love club
Everything will glow for you
You’ll get punched for the love club
For the love club

“The Love Club” by Lorde

P.S. Am I the only one who thinks of the Royal family when listening to her song? Anyone? I think the Tenenbaums would be proud.

Lorde.

Brooklyn, Oh Brooklyn

While I was working this morning I was listening to my beloved WNYC and heard this amazing live performance and interview with the band Hem.

I had never heard of this Brooklyn based group and fell in love as soon as I heard them preform. The band has been around since 1999 and their new album, Departure and Farewell, has just been released. Apparently they’re also playing at the Bowery Ballroom this Saturday, too bad I have Derby plans.

The interview with the band was aired perfectly, right after the NY Times published this article on discovering Brooklyn. Living in Greenpoint/Williamsburg, I found the article pretty obnoxious and loved the rebuttal the band Hem had in this interview. What Sally says about Brooklyn is exactly the reason I love living here.

Leonard Lopate: People are talking these days of how sheik Brooklyn is, in fact the times has this very annoying article out today. They suddenly just discovered that Brooklyn is a place want to be.
Gary Maurer: For me, it’s everything.
Sally Ellyson: Brooklyn, it’s got the country in the city.

I had tried to find the song “So Long” (the first one I loved from their interview) but I couldn’t find it on youtube or anywhere else. Look for it on Spotify, it’s a beautiful song. I’m not sure how to link music here but I’ll try? It’s at the end of this playlist, May
P.S. Hope you have a lovely Dos de Mayo, Hart Beat. Wish I could have a drink outside in Madrid tonight.

I don’t want you hangin’ around

A. wins! I have been looking for this song in a youtube version for about six months now so I can share it with you Hart Beat. Tonight I was playing guitar and listened to this song over and over, now you can too! This song is amazing and, as my friend K. said, when you sing along with it you get to say “I don’t want you hangin’ around no more” over and over again.

And, in case (like I did) you want to know the lyrics to this amazing song, look no farther. A. and I figured out the whole thing.
Found the devil in the bottom of the bottle
Said girl you’re doing just fine
Called my mother in the middle of the night
Shaking to the bone I knew you wasn’t right

Called to ask her to send more money
bank is empty and the phone stopped ringing
I don’t know where I’m headed no more

Caught a glimpse of a shadow in the dark
Looked a little cold and he looked a little lonely
Threw a diamond in the bottom of your well
I took a wrong turn somewhere ended up at the bottom of this hill
Asking why I said yes to you

Turned my back on the ones I love
Turned my back on the ones I love

Had to leave for a while
You’d stayed, put my picture in a locket
Gotta ask you now to give that back

I’ve walked too many miles
If I hide my love from you
It’s the only way to bid you goodbye
I don’t want you hangin’ around no more
I don’t want you hangin’ around

Emptied out all my pockets and my soul too
Gonna start afresh, gonna start anew
Look at there the sun is shining
Gonna take these glasses off
Gonna say the things I meant to say to you

I will say the things you couldn’t
I will do the things you wouldn’t
We’ll both go our separate ways
I don’t mind taking the low road
Found in you what I didn’t have
Devils gone now how do you like that
I ain’t gonna fall, I ain’t gonna be left

Woke up sober next day
Turned on the big bright lights
Cracked out a notebook and my favorite pen
Called my father but I couldn’t stop crying
Said girl, well at least you ain’t lying
Oh you forget me now

I called up the man
Nobody answered
Guess that’s for the best anyhow
I don’t you hangin’ around no more
I don’t want you hangin’ around
