December Time

Hannah Hart Beat

Hiya Hart Beat. Greetings from sunny Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been doing lots of traveling and am happy to report that I have successfully trapped myself in a pile of knit sweaters and books to be read for the rest of the month. I will not be traveling until I can dig myself out of this cozy mess. Please don’t send help.

Not only did I visit Montreal for Thanksgiving, last week I visited New York City for the first time since leaving at the end of March this year. It had been eight months since I was back and I had avoided it for a while, getting anxiety dreams about even thinking of going back over the summer. By the time Fall rolled around though, there were so many people that I wanted to see that it was finally time. I mean, I did live there for five years.

So I went. I visited some of my favorite people, drank delicious coffee, walked around, and bought too many books. And you know what was the craziest thing about being back, Hart Beat? That city has not changed A BIT since I left. Seriously, it kind of felt like the last eight months hadn’t happened. The thing was though, that I felt different. It was weird to be in a place that hadn’t changed when I feel like I’m in such a different, better place. Instead of feeling like I couldn’t fit into the city, it felt like the city couldn’t fit into me.

Now that I’m back I’m so happy that I can call this studio, this town, this county, my home right now. I don’t think I’ll be here forever but I do know that I’m going to milk every hour out of the Berkshires until it’s time to move on.

In other news, happy December!! It’s one of my favorite months and so, in honor of cozy time, here are a few things on my mind lately. #hyggeedition

Waiting (not so patiently) for Call Me By Your Name to come to the Triplex. I also just ordered the book to read hopefully before seeing the movie and am ashamed at home much I paid for the non-movie cover version of the book. #iamvain

I’ve been unable to stop listening to this season’s Dissect series on My Beautiful Deep Twisted Fantasy but was BLOWN AWAY by the episodes on “Devil in a New Dress” and “Runaway.” They were always my favorites on the album and now they are probably two of my favorite songs of all time.

Loving Caroline Donofrio’s (former editor of Cup of JoInstagram series on different “Haiku’s From Former Lovers.” It’s hard to pick a favorite but this one really got me:

Living in this sweater I snagged on Cyber Monday from Madewell.

Feeling weird for (finally) reading Tenth of December by George Saunders because it’s December? No? Yes?

Amazed at this interview in The Fold with author Claire Dedler about her book Love and Trouble. I loved this bit,

While I was working on the book, a friend said to me, “You probably know what you would teach young Claire if you could, but what does young Claire have to teach you?” What she had to teach me was in those journals: the importance of love and yearning and, yes, pretentiousness things we sometimes forget about in the daily round of grown-up life.

Okay back to reading. Talk soon, Hart Beat. xo

Clavicle Sightings

Hi Hart Beat! Did you watch the Golden Globes this year? To be honest, I did not watch it but I 100% watched the recap on Entertainment Tonight at the gym. And what did I learn? Clavicles and sternums are IN people! Hollywood is dressing everyone on the red carpet as if their belly button is suddenly the new starting point of a V-neck. I’m not really confident that I’ll ever be able to find a bra that allows this BUT I think I’m going to try and adapt some of this look into my outfit.

One way I can see this look happening (especially in the dead of winter) is grabbing a few button downs and opening the collar up wide at the top. This way you get some collar bone action with the added bonus of being work appropriate. The chambray shirt in the top photo here would work perfectly and is currently sitting in my cart at Madewell.com. God knows I wish I knew where this shirt at the bottom was from. The internet being the internet I can only find this site as it’s origin.

So what about you, Hart Beat? Have you noticed any trends recently sweeping the nation? Red carpet inspiration or not, I’ll take it.

The New Cool Kids from Madewell, December Edition

Hi Hart Beat! I have something to admit… I have been doing some online shopping. In even more honesty, it’s more than I should be doing because what I should be doing is buying the rest of the Christmas gifts on my list. But I can’t help myself! This season everyone I love is having sales. And this is not excluding Madewell (who at this very minute is having 25% off their entire site as a “thank you to procrastinators” aka “here you go buy everything you’ve wanted all year because it’s Wednesday night and lalala it’s the holidays.” (Code is LATEBIRD.)

Anyway, I made a pretty big order over Cyber Monday and so I thought I’d share some of the things that I honest to god love so much. First up, up top and #3 in the grid below, these plaid pajamas. Madewell calls them “Flannel Bedtime Pajamas” and they are my favorite thing right now. The only two reviews on the site claim that the pants are too wide but WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE? The pants are perfect. I’m wearing them right now. And the pajama top! I won’t go on because there are other things I want to talk about but it’s the cutest and most comfortable thing I’ve bought in a while and I get so sad every morning when I take it off before I go to work. I’ll be honest, I’ve definitely considered just wearing it to the office. Now I officially cannot. #whatever

And here’s a rundown of the rest: #1 = THE body suite I’ve been pinning about since the summer. It’s this amazing sweater material that’s not too hot, not too cold. Almost as if goldilocks were a sexy body suit. #2 = the most comfortable beanie in the most flattering color. I feel like a tall Swedish babe when I wear it and I don’t think I ever want to feel anything else ever again. And #4 = Another sweater. Why? Because it’s December and I already hate the winter and my attempt to fix this feeling is by bundling myself up with the softest things ever until April when I remember again when I love this city. Anything you’re loving from Madewell or anywhere else right now?

Girl crushes from Madewell

Hannah Hart Beat

Hey Hart Beat. If you are a fan of this blog then you how I feel about Madewell. The brand has been around for a while and it’s one that I’ve worn pretty consistently since moving to New York. This fall the brand released not only their new fall lookbook (shot in Rome) but also a series of videos that they created with three creative women.

The three women, writer Christina Pérez, florist Lisa Przystup, and musician Adeline Michèle, all put together different outfits that Madewell has up on their site. The brand also put together three short videos that you can watch on their youtube channel. The compilation one is here (you might even recognize the song) and I thought you might like to see. It does, unfortunately have the ability to make you start to go “oh man why isn’t my life as perfect as these girls and how come I don’t look that casually beautiful all the time??”

I’ll forgive Madewell though since sometimes you need a little bit to dream about. Also, shout out to Lisa Przystup aka @brass_tacks who lives in Greenpoint!

Why do you make me feel this way, Madewell?

Hi Hart Beat. Just a quick note from me this morning about how I woke up and wanted to die/cry/storm to my nearest Madewell store to pick up this bag. Last week the brand released its second collaboration with the French designer and brand Sézan. There are so many beautiful shoes and dresses but what I really want is this beautiful (and practical?) leather tote that’s available now. I can’t justify spending $200+ dollars ahora but holy moly, Hart Beat. This is a tough one.

Of course it didn’t help that I woke up this morning to see the gorgeous photo (above) on the brands Instagram. Anyone have a Madewell gift card that they’ve been wanting to give to a friend?

#HappyFriday: Jukeboxes, Brimfield & More

Madewell blog

THE HAPPIEST OF FRIDAYS. Oh Hart Beat, for some reason this week was super long and I am so glad it’s Friday. The reason is probably because Saturday morning I’m running the Brooklyn Half Marathon and I’m very nervous slash excited. Any of you out there in internet world have plans for the weekend? If not you should come cheer me on! Carolyn and I are both running and there’s going to be a party at the end at Coney Island. What else do you want to do on a Saturday morning?

Until then, here are my top five links from the week:

. The most popular jukebox songs depending on your zip code in New York.

. All I want to after reading this article is go to Brimfield insane antique market.

. Last week was Brigitte and this week we have Katharine Hepburn as our style guide. I love her.

Abandoned love signs from Miss Moss.

. I have the worst wanderlust right now and this blog post from Madewell is not helping.

Oh also, here’s an Instagram photo from this week (shameless plug to get you readers to follow me there). Isn’t Bay Ridge a crazy cool place?

My spring uniform

Spring Uniform, 2015 Edition

Heyyy Hart Beat. How’s your Sunday night going? This afternoon (as I mentioned earlier) I got to see my best friends Marina and Carolyn (formerly known here as C.) for a picnic in Prospect Park. While there I had the biggest shoe envy because Marina was wearing these gorgeous This is Spring peep-toe sandals. As soon as I saw them I had one of those I MUST HAVE YOU NOW moments. Sad times for me (and you if you thought you could see them) is that the shoe is sold out everywhere online. You Rayray, are a trendsetter.

Spring Uniform, 2015 Edition

After searching for an amount of time that I would not like to disclose, I remembered another brand, Avarcas Pons, that I follow on Instagram that has shoes very, very similar to the ones that Marina was wearing. Lucky us Hart Beat, not only these made out of 100% leather but THEY ARE MADE IN SPAIN. Boom done, bought. While I was on this spree I decided to cash in on some gift cards I’ve been holding onto for a little too long and have pulled together my here-forth Spring 2015 Uniform. What do you think Hart Beat? Do you have a spring uniform you’re looking forward to wearing?

Piece 1. The Avarcas Pons (hello Spain) classic style in black.

Spring Uniform 2015 Edition

Piece 2. The Madewell (surprised anyone?) Oceanside Pullover Sweater.

My spring uniform

Piece 3. The Levis (my favorite jeans right now) 501 distressed light wash jeans.

The Last Call Shop from Sézane

Hi Hart Beat. Just a little note from me to you here. For those of you who discovered the lovely French brand Sézane this fall when it and Madewell had an exclusive collaboration (more on the V&V here) then you are in luck. Everything by Sézane is so effortless and chic but unfortunately, the prices match the beauty of the clothes. Lucky for us the site has a new section called the Last Call Shop that sells last pieces on sale. I haven’t been able to get anything yet but I have my eye on these shoes… Happy shopping Hart Beat.
P.S. The home shop of Sézane is ON POINT.

Win a trip to Paris!!

Moi oui bien sur! That’s right! I said you can win a trip to Paris by reading this blog post! Unfortunately, Hart Beat is not at the stage right now where I can offer this giveaway but our friends at Madewell sure can. I received this email newsletter this morning informing me that all I have to do to be eligible to win a trip to Paris (with a plus one, Pedro get your passport) is by pinning some of the products they have selected for their gift guide.
I know that by sharing this news with you I am decreasing my chance of winning but, come on, it’s PARIS. How could I not share the good news? So pin away friends! And keep those Parisian styled finger-nails crossed!
