Long distance watch

Oh hey there Hart Beat. As many of you loyal readers know, the only watch I’ve ever worn is by Olivia Burton. The other day though I came across this watch designed by Kitmen Keung called “Long Distance.” Not only do I love the idea of this watch, but the design is breathtaking as well. There have definitely been a few times when this watch could have come in handy the last couple of years. Plus, to all those out there in a long distance relationship, awesome holiday gift.

Designed to act as a reminder of the distance between the wearer and a loved one, the face features two dials which can be set to different time zones. The secondary face is a lighter shade of grey.

I’m miles from where you are

I was listening to the official Hart Beat playlist in the car today and I realized that I’ve never shared one of my favorite, most Hart Beat appropriate classics. I think tonight is a good night to share it with all of you. Anyone who can guess what movie trailer features this song will win all my love and devotion. Just kidding?

I love you to much for that. Too truly.

Hey Hart Beat. I have a letter for you to read tonight from my favorite website. Read it first and then we can talk.

January 21

Milan

I am reduced to a thing that wants Virginia. I composed a beautiful letter to you in the sleepless nightmare hours of the night, and it has all gone: I just miss you, in a quite simple desperate human way. You, with all your un-dumb letters, would never write so elementary a phrase as that; perhaps you wouldn’t even feel it. And yet I believe you’ll be sensible of a little gap. But you’d clothe it in so exquisite a phrase that it would lose a little of its reality. Whereas with me it is quite stark: I miss you even more than I could have believed; and I was prepared to miss you a good deal. So this letter is just really a squeal of pain. It is incredible how essential to me you have become. I suppose you are accustomed to people saying these things. Damn you, spoilt creature; I shan’t make you love me any the more by giving myself away like this — But oh my dear, I can’t be clever and stand-offish with you: I love you to much for that. Too truly. You have no idea how stand-offish I can be with people I don’t love. I have brought it to a fine art. But you have broken down my defences. And I don’t really resent it.

However I won’t bore you with any more.

We have re-started, and the train is shaky again. I shall have to write at the stations – which are fortunately many across the Lombard plain.

Venice. The stations were many, but I didn’t bargain for the Orient Express not stopping at them. And here we are at Venice for ten minutes only, — a wretched time in which to try and write. Not time to buy an Italian stamp even, so this will have to go from Trieste.

The waterfalls in Switzerland were frozen into solid iridescent curtains of ice, hanging over the rock; so lovely. And Italy all blanketed in snow.

We’re going to start again. I shall have to wait till Trieste tomorrow morning. Please forgive me for writing such a miserable letter.

V.

Thanks Letters of Note. This letter was written by English novelist Vita Sackville-West to Virginia Woolf. According to Letters of Note, Vita wrote the letter to Virginia while traveling by train back to her husband in Persia, and leaving her love behind.

The first paragraph just about kills me. Vita puts into words an ache that I think everyone must know from being in love. I can see too how traveling alone on a train can be isolating, I get the loneliest in transit too.

A distance love story

Hey Hart Beat. How’s you’re Sunday night going? I hope you had a nice weekend out, wherever you are. Earlier today I found this amazing video and I had to share it with you. It’s a simple love story about distance and I thought it was really sweet. And, a little tidbit for ya, apparently the entire video was filmed on a Nokia cell phone. Technology man, crazy world. What do you think of the movie, Hart Beat?

I love the shots of Paris vs. New York in this video. It made me a little dizzy the first time but I think sometimes thats how it feels to live in a city. I love New York so much but I remember what it was like to be split for a while. Nice job James W. Griffiths, you win.

Thanksgiving twenty twelve

Happy Thanksgiving Hart Beat! I hope everyone is having a great day celebrating and eating and sleeping and everything else associated with the big T-Day. I’m so excited to be home in the Berkshires for this Thanksgiving, although I do miss having my favorite brother around to celebrate the holiday with this year. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and this year I hope it’s especially good. I don’t have any pictures to share with you yet from the celebration here but check back later tonight and there will be a few surprises for you.

I was thinking the other day about how the first anniversary for Hart Beat is coming up soon in December. A year ago now the blog didn’t exist yet and I was doing my best to get through first semester with thesis and other stuff. Anyone have any ideas on how to celebrate the birthday of Hart Beat this year? I was thinking of hosting some guest posts, anyone want one?

Jade?
Alexander?
Do you remember that day
you feel out of my window?
Sure do, you came jumping
out after me.
Well, you fell on the concrete
and nearly broke your ass
and you were bleeding all
over the place and I rushed
you off to the hospital.
Do you remember that?
Yes, I do.
Well there’s something
I never told you about that night.
What didn’t you tell me?
While you were sitting in the backseat
smoking a cigarette you thought
was going to be your last,
I was falling deep, deeply
in love with you
and I never told you
’til just now.

“I don’t want to live — I want to love first, and live incidentally”

Scott and Zelda

I came across this sweet letter written by Zelda Fitzgerald to her soon to be husband Scott. I think Zelda is a beautiful writer and the love she feels for Scott here is truly palpable and overwhelming. As embarrassing as it is, this letter actually reminds me so much of how I felt in a long distance relationship. Zelda knows the way to my heart I guess. I hope you like the letter Hart Beat.

A letter from Zelda written in the Spring of 1919

Sweetheart,
Please, please don’t be so depressed  We’ll be married soon, and then these lonesome nights will be over forever — and until we are, I am loving, loving every tiny minute of the day and night  Maybe you won’t understand this, but sometimes when I miss you most, it’s hardest to write  and you always know when I make myself  Just the ache of it all  and I can’t tell you. If we were together you’d feel how strong it is  you’re so sweet when you’re melancholy. I love your sad tenderness  when I’ve hurt you  That’s one of the reasons I could never be sorry for our quarrels  and they bothered you so  Those dear, dear little fusses, when I always tried so hard to make you kiss and forget

Scott  there’s nothing in all the world I want but you  and your precious love — All the materials things are nothing. I’d just hate to live a sordid, colorless existence — because you’d soon love me less  and less  and I’d do anything — anything — to keep your heart for my own  I don’t want to live  I want to love first, and live incidentally… Don’t  don’t ever think of the things you can’t give me  You’ve trusted me with the dearest heart of all  and it’s so damn much more than anybody else in all the world has ever had

How can you think deliberately of life without me  If you should die  O Darling  darling Scott  It’d be like going blind… I’d have no purpose in life  just a pretty  decoration. Don’t you think I was made for you? I feel like you had me ordered  and I was delivered to you  to be worn  I want you to wear me, like a watch  charm or a button hole bouquet  to the world. And then, when we’re alone, I want to help  to know that you can’t do anything without me…

All my heart
I love you

My girl, Zelda.
