Hi Hart Beat! Like I wrote about the other night, I’m all about escaping this god-forsaken and freezing city right now. Instead of trudging outside into the dark to see La La Land again, I’ve lost myself deep down in the feed of my most recent Instacrush, Lucy Rose Laucht aka @lucylaucht. If you like Instagram accounts of beautifully shot beaches, camper vans and romantic cliff sides (and who doesn’t really?) then you’re gonna love her.
I’m not sure how Lucy made her way into my feed but since I’ve started following her I’ve also become obsessed with her current life situation. I mean, read this from her website about me,
A Brit in New York by way of Australia, I’m a writer and photographer with a taste for world wandering. I left the rainy shores of England some nine years ago for a year long, round-the-world backpacking adventure where I met my soul mate at a noodle stand in Bali and never really looked back. My now-husband and l are currently at home on the road in La Guaguita, a (sometimes functional) 1985 Volkswagen Westfalia camper on a road trip across America in search of the interesting people & off-beat places that inspire us to get out and see the world.
Lucy, you are living the dream! Like seriously how can we get to the level of “living your best life” that this amazing woman is at? Le sigh. I guess we’ll just have to strain our thumbs going back further and further in her feed. Right, Hart Beat?

Hi Hart Beat! This afternoon I want to share one of my newest Instacrushes that I’ve been obsessing over as of late. The account comes from a LA based bicycle company called Brilliant Bicycle Co. that makes the coolest and simplest bikes out there.
As you loyal readers know, I am an avid New York City biker and take pride in my beloved Bianchi. As much as I love my bike, ever since I came across the Brilliant Bicycle Co. instagram and website, I’ve been seriously considering getting one of the Brilliant bikes.
The company makes the options very easy by only offering two different types of frames, the Astor and the Mayfair, with each having either 1, 3, or 7 gears in so many fun, bright colors. I haven’t ridden on the bike but from what I’ve read this is the perfect, inexpensive, adorable bike for anyone in a city looking for a commuter bike. If you’re not ready to ride or ready to spring for a new bike then just follow @ridebrilliant and you can pretend, like me.

Bonjour, Hart Beat! Comment allez-vous? Bienvenue sur le blog, en français! … Just kidding! Lucky you, I didn’t major in French and will not be writing this blog to you in said language. Today is Bastille Day and because of that I thought that I would share with you my most recent Instacrush.
This story comes with a bit of a backstory so bear with me. The summer right after Carolyn and I graduated from Bates we took a once in a lifetime trip together through Europe. I chronicled the whole thing here on the blog and you can read each installment here (Berlin, Nuremberg, Munich, Salzburg, Luzern, Interlaken, Montreux, Nice, Marseilles, and different parts of Spain.)
I haven’t been back to France since that trip and I still think about southern France (specifically) often. Carolyn and I had such a blast taking the train from oceanside town to oceanside town and Marseilles was one of our favorites.
Not long ago I found out that the city of Marseille has an official Instagram account called @choosemarseille. It’s awesome. It does a great job of both representing the beauty of the city AND making me want to buy a plane ticket right now so I can go to la plage. So on this dreary New York day, here’s a little French celebration and wanderlust for your afternoon.

Happy lunch time, Hart Beat. What better way to celebrate a Thursday lunch than with the newest installment of your favorite Instacrush series. I have a pretty boring salad packed away but to spice it up, I’m going be looking at one of my most favorite Instagram accounts, a Miss Posie Harwood.
Since I started working at Food52 this past fall, I’ve met so many kind, amazing and talented people through the company. I am not much of a cook myself and have never wanted to start a cooking blog (I repeat, HART BEAT WILL NEVER BECOME A COOKING BLOG) that it’s so nice to be surrounded by such pretty food all the time. One of my favorite things to come out of working here has been the exposure to so many great photographers (looking at you James Ransom). One of the best I’ve seen is Posie Harwood who used to work at Food52 and is now working for King Arthur Flour.
Hi Hart Beat. This weekend was super snowy in Brooklyn. Seeing all this snow outside my window in Brooklyn has me missing my hometown in the Berkshires. Lucky for me (and you) I recently discovered an amazing Instagram and ecommerce site called And North, a site and brand dedicated for sharing a curated look at upstate New York. The founders and contributors to the site are based in Brooklyn and use their love for exploring new places to share with us urban dwellers the beauty of upstate.
I love the And North website but most of all, I’m obsessed with the Instagram account @andnorth curated by the group that runs the site. The photos are a combination of shots that they’ve taken while traveling upstate and crowdsourced by their hashtag #andnorth. Even though I didn’t technicaly grow up in Upstate New York, the Berkshires in Massachusetts we’re that far off. I love seeing the hills, fields, forests and small towns that I miss all the time. For anyone (even those living outside of New York) this is an Instagram account that I couldn’t recommend any more.
Hi Hart Beat. Welcome to the newest installment of the new Instacrush series that I’ve been holding here on ye’ old blog. Pervious series highlights have included photographers Cambria Grace, Fawn DeViney and the brilliant man behind The Dogist. Today I want to share with you a brilliant New York artist who is taking Instagram to the next level by displaying his incredibly funny and breathtaking collage work via iPhone photography.
I discovered Kalen Hollomon through a couple of different art blogs and was particularly struck by this interview that the artist gave for the Capsule show’s website. The beauty of Holloman’s work comes from using vintage and current advertising and using them in the familiar snapshots of New York City. The images are placed so perfectly into the frame that even seeing Holloman’s fingers propping the cutout up adds to the charm of these images. Lucky for us, Holloman posts a few of these magic works of art daily on his Instagram feed @kalen_hollomon. This is one that you should most definitely check out Hart Beat.
That face. Today I want to share the third Instacrush installment with you. (For the first
Instacrush highlights check out the links.) One of my favorite accounts to look at is @thedogist
, a feed dedicated to photographs of dogs out on their walks. All of the beautiful photographs are taken by native New Yorker, Elias. I heard about The Dogist
through my friend Marina who grew up with the photographers younger brother.
Every photograph shows so much personality from every dog. Elias always gets on the same level of the dog and takes the photo without any people in the photo. I love that each caption is so simple and just says the name of the dog, the breed of the dog and the location that the photo was taken. So many of these dogs come from Manhattan and Brooklyn and I love seeing my neighborhood pop up now and then. I can imagine even more people would see these fantastic dogs if they had a bit of a instagram boost. If you’re interested, get more instagram followers for free
because these adorable dogs deserve to be seen by as many people as possible!
Before I moved to New York I always said that in the two years after graduation all I wanted was a job where I could ride my bike to work and a dog. I have one of the two down so I think I need to just get on the second. This feed definitely doesn’t help. I want all these pups!
One of the best parts about @thedogist is that every once and a while a dog is photographed that is up for adoption through the @ASPCA of NYC. You can tell which dogs are up for a adoption as bones are donated by fans and then photographed with the donated bones for the feed. Look at these two sweethearts (below and above.) I want to cuddle with them right now. GAH.
Oh hello there, Hart Beat. Happy Saturday!! It is so beautiful here in Brooklyn today. Sometimes I can’t get over how amazing this neighborhood is that I have to pinch myself to make sure it’s all real. Before I go off to get my hair cut, I want to share the next in my new Instacrush series. First we took a look at Cambia Grace’s jaw dropping work and today let’s move on to the talented Fawn DeViney.
Miss. Fawn’s work was highlighted by Miss Moss this week and I was so excited to see one of my favorite instagramers in the blogging spotlight. Scrolling through my feed of friends, family and celebrities I’m always pleasantly surprised to see what Fawn DeViney has been up to lately. Her images are so clean and organized, I want your life girl. Apparently Fawn splits her time between Boston and Phoenix as a professional photographer. So enjoy your Saturday, Hart Beat, and spend some time looking through @sfawnd on Instagram.
Hi Hart Beat. I hope you’re week is off to a good start. I’m excited to start a new mini-series, called Instacrush, with you tonight! Since I work in marketing I spend a lot of time with social media but I have to say that my favorite platform by far is Instagram. There are so many great feeds to follow it’s pretty overwhelming so I thought I’d share some of my photographers with you here.
I’ve wanted to do this Instacrush series for a while and today is the day because I have found the perfect feed to start! Cambria Grace is a super talented photographer that graduated from Bates the year before I did. She and I didn’t know each other at school but I was on the sailing team with some of her friends and I am happy to say I’m now a huge fan of her work. Cambria has an amazing eye and takes beautiful photos of weddings and engagements. There are too many amazing photos from her website that I honestly couldn’t choose just a few. So instead I’ll share some of my favorite images from her Instagram feed @cambria_grace.
What makes it better is it looks like Cambria and her fiancé (another Bates grad) just got an adorable new puppy that stars in her Instagram. I think that this puppy could be James’ brother, don’t you? Anyway, congratulations Cambria on the amazing photographs and the great business!
