Christmas Music for you

Hey Hart Beat. Long time no see! These last few weeks have been beyond busy at work and I hate to say it but ye old blog has suffered the consequences. I promise to be better this week. I am starting to hate all the excuses that begin every blog post (I’m sure you are too).

Tonight let’s talk about something holiday because it’s THE HOLIDAY SEASON LALALALALALALALA. Other than watching some of my favorite Christmas movies, I’ve been also listening to some great holiday music. We all love the tried and true holiday songs (hey Mariah hey) but I’ve also put a list together of some of the other indie Christmas songs that might not be in your rotation but should be added right now.

#1. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) from Slow Club

#2. What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve? from The Head and the Heart

#3. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas from Cat Power

#4. Jingle Bell Rock from Rogue Wave

#5. I’ll Be Home for Christmas from She & Him

P.S. If you’re looking for more take a look at the new Spotify Indie Christmas.

P.P.S. The wreath from the photo up top comes from a little shop at Food52. It smells amazing and you can buy it here.

Memorial Day Weekend in Maine

Bonjour Hart Beat!! Happy long weekend! This weekend my best friend from college (remember C?) and I are driving up to Maine to spend the holiday weekend at my Grandmother’s summer house. We’ll be on an island off Boothbay Harbor for the entire weekend! I grew up going to the island but C has never been and I can’t wait to show her around! I won’t be blogging since the island has no internet (or cars, or restaurants, or grocery stores, or phones) but that’s another story for another day. Have a relaxing Memorial Day Weekend and I’ll talk to you next week!

My oh my, dress details

Hi Hart Beat. Happy almost Christmas! I love this time of year, and I especially love being home seeing my family and their new puppy. One of the best parts about Christmas is that it means New Years is right around the corner. For the past few New Years Eve’s I’ve been celebrating in Brooklyn, but this year I’m really excited to head up to Boston for the night to celebrate. Last week I got a dress to wear, and oh Hart Beat, it’s the kind of dress that I dream about. I don’t want to show you the whole thing lest ruin the surprise, but I will show you a great detail it has. The New Years dress I got is thrown in here with a bunch of other dress detailing I love. Happy almost Christmas Hart Beat!

Holiday Hair

Hi Hart Beat. I’m sorry for not posting to you in a while. It’s been a busy couple of weeks. Before the holiday’s hit us hard tomorrow (two for the price of one?! it’s a holiday miracle), here are some hair styles for anyone stuck in a rut like me.

Braids on braids on braids.
Retro chick.
Ponytail boss.
And of course, toupish Hart Beat, flower crowns.

Home for the holiday

Hi Hart Beat. This post might come out a little funky as the Internet isn’t working at my house and I’m posting this via ye old Berkshire county cell tower (yes, that is a singular tower).

I’m home for a couple of days relaxing and so I’m not sure how much I’ll be posting these next couple of days. Right now I’m sitting in front of a perfect fire and reading an amazing book that has me nostalgic for Madrid. But what else is new.

I realized on Friday after I posted that it was Hart Beat’s first year anniversary! Thank you so much for still reading loves!

Sayonara for now and happy holidays all!

Our christmas tree

Earlier this month I wrote about my Brooklyn apartment and our celebration of Hanukkah. This is my last night in Brooklyn before going back to the Berkshires for Christmas and so I wanted to post some pictures of our Brooklyn Christmas tree.

Since someone I know is allergic to Christmas trees, this year we decided to make our own. The process was really easy and I recommend it to anyone. ALl we did was rip out pages or parts of magazine pages that were green and glued them onto our wall in the form of a christmas tree. Pretty, huh? Happy almost Christmas Hart Beat!

Happy hanukkah

Hi Hart Beat. Tonight is another cozy night in my apartment in Brooklyn. G. and I haven’t been home at the same time in so long that tonight, finally, we get to spend sometime in the Astral. Tonight, G. and I, along with another friend from home A., celebrated the third night of Hanukkah. A. tried to make latkes last night but she said they weren’t up to her Bubba’s standards. I think we’re trying again tomorrow. Since we’re new to New York, our apartment doesn’t have it’s own menorah we have fashioned our own, Brooklyn style menorah. What about you Hart Beat, are you doing anything this week for Hanukkah? How about any holiday parties?

Thanksgiving twenty twelve

Happy Thanksgiving Hart Beat! I hope everyone is having a great day celebrating and eating and sleeping and everything else associated with the big T-Day. I’m so excited to be home in the Berkshires for this Thanksgiving, although I do miss having my favorite brother around to celebrate the holiday with this year. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday and this year I hope it’s especially good. I don’t have any pictures to share with you yet from the celebration here but check back later tonight and there will be a few surprises for you.

I was thinking the other day about how the first anniversary for Hart Beat is coming up soon in December. A year ago now the blog didn’t exist yet and I was doing my best to get through first semester with thesis and other stuff. Anyone have any ideas on how to celebrate the birthday of Hart Beat this year? I was thinking of hosting some guest posts, anyone want one?

Jade?
Alexander?
Do you remember that day
you feel out of my window?
Sure do, you came jumping
out after me.
Well, you fell on the concrete
and nearly broke your ass
and you were bleeding all
over the place and I rushed
you off to the hospital.
Do you remember that?
Yes, I do.
Well there’s something
I never told you about that night.
What didn’t you tell me?
While you were sitting in the backseat
smoking a cigarette you thought
was going to be your last,
I was falling deep, deeply
in love with you
and I never told you
’til just now.
The moon in the berkshires.
