Hiya Hart Beat! Happy Friday! I won’t pretend that I am living a hard life up here in Maine but that doesn’t mean that I can’t appreciate a good Friday like the rest of the world. To celebrate, let’s turn to Frank O’Hara and see what he has to say about drinking, writing, and life in general. I particularly love the last line of this poem. Get out there dancing tonight, okay Hart Beat?
As Planned by Frank O’Hara
After the first glass of vodka
you can accept just about anything
of life even your own mysteriousness
you think it is nice that a box
of matches is purple and brown and is called
La Petite and comes from Sweden
for they are words that you know and that
is all you know words not their feelings
or what they mean and you write because
you know them not because you understand them
because you don’t you are stupid and lazy
and will never be great but you do
what you know because what else is there?
Hey Hart Beat. HAPPY FRIDAY. We did it. And to celebrate, here are some of the songs that got me through the entire week. As I mentioned last week, this is a new Friday installment of Hart Beat. I hope you liked last week’s songs and find these others help you with your commute home from work. Cheers to that, Hart Beat.
A preciously undiscovered track (at least to me) from the Alabama Shake’s Sound & Color, “Over My Head.”
“More Than Enough” by Elizabeth & the Catapult. Because ladies rule.
Ratata’s song “Cream on Chrome” has me DANCING ON THE SUBWAY. And I like it.
Hey Hart Beat! It’s a new year, let’s try something new. One thing that I love sharing with you lovely readers are new music finds that I come across. I feel like it’s something special about Hart Beat that not many other “lifestyle blogs” (ugg whatever that means) have. So, on this cold Friday, let’s welcome the first bunch!
To go along with this new thing, I’ve started a new playlist called Hart Beat’s Music Friday’s with just these new songs. Don’t worry, the tried and true original Hart Beat playlist still exists but this new one will be a little shorter and maybe snappier? Let me know what you think about it. And, without further ado, here are the couple of songs that I’ve been listening to all week!
Sia’s (new) track, Unstoppable
Kanye and Kendrick Lamar’s new track (not on Spotify 😞) “No More Parties in L.A.”
Justin Bieber’s HIT BECAUSE I DON’T CARE. It’s amazing, Hart Beat. Just face it. (Also, side note here but whatevs, the dance in this song makes me love the song 100x more. I want to live in this video.)
Top photo of Diana Ross dancing like the queen she is.
Hey Hart Beat. It’s FRIDAY!!!! I’m sure you’re equally excited as I am. Work this week has been super busy now that Thanksgiving is right around the corner. I’m lucky that I love my job so much so that even when it’s super stressful I’m still incredibly happy and feel so lucky to be working for such a great company. This Friday, instead of five articles I’ve loved reading this week, here are a few things that deserved their own posts this week but then didn’t because I was too busy. Here’s to hoping next week gets to you more, Hart Beat.
1, Got this song in my Discovery Weekly on Monday. Um yes. Spotify, how did you know I love acoustic covers of pop and rap songs? #mustbedata
2. The piece “The Running Novelist” in The New Yorker about a bar owner turned author and runner was so inspiring.
3. Aziz Ansari’s new Netflix original show “Master of None” is AMAZING. I love every detail of the show, especially that it looks like the whole thing was filmed in my old neighborhood in Greenpoint. The bars he goes to are the ones I used to haunt and I love that. P.S. Terri Gross interviewed him this week and it was equally awesome.
4. I found my new love in Snapchat. Follow me by searching for hannahshazam.
4. I went home last weekend to the Berkshires and took some photos for Instagram. Take a look in case you’re craving a trip to the country right now.
Hey Hart Beat. We did it. We made it to Friday. I don’t have any articles this Friday but I do have a great video that I want to add on to the discussion of this whole Taylor Swift 1989 stuff. If you don’t know about it here’s a run down. TSwifts album 1929 came out last year to rave reviews. This year, the indie/country singer Ryan Adams covered the entire album, song by song, all the while reinventing the tempo and feeling of each song. In response to Adams’ cover, our favorite meta artist Father John Misty covered one of Ryan Adams’ covers of Blank Space. To make it even more confusing, apparently Father John has removed the cover from Soundcloud because Lou Reed asked him to in a dream…
Anyway…. yesterday on Facebook I saw that Todrick Hall (an MTV star) covered a medley of Taylor Swift songs to an amazing result. I can’t get enough of it and it reminds me how much I love Taylor Swifts songs in the best way possible. Hope it makes your Friday as bright as it’s making mine!
Hi Hart Beat! See, I didn’t forget about you. This week was pretty hectic at work and in life so I didn’t have as much time to write to you all 😞. Also, to be honest, I was engrossed in readying Diary of a Teenage Girl and any free time that I had I spent reading it. If you are looking for something to read this fall then I HIGHLY recommend it. It might even be worth it’s own post soon so I won’t say too much. Anyway this weekend I’m looking forward to napping and… whelp napping is the first on my mind now. For you, here are five articles I loved reading this week when I took a break from Diary of a Teenage Girl. See you on, Monday!
This week. THIS WEEK. It’s over and that is all I want to say about it right now. What are you doing this weekend, Hart Beat? Pedro and I are staying in Brooklyn since we both try and avoid Manhattan like the plague on the weekends. I’m hoping to take a nap one of the two days and hopefully get a bike ride in. Simple times.
If you’re around and want some things to read here are five articles that I found super interesting this week. See you Monday, Hart Beat!
Heyyyyy, Hart Beat. Another week and another Friday (gracias a dios). What are you doing this weekend? Pedro and I are going to spend the day in Red Hook on Sunday and I’m super excited. It’s a great neighborhood and apparently there’s a taco place that we have been wanting to try. Until Monday here are five articles that I loved reading this week. Hope you like them too, Hart Beat!
Oh Hart Beat. We did it. It’s Friday! This week seemed extra long, probably because starting tomorrow I’m going to be on vacation for a week. For this week away from work and away from the city, I’ve decided to take an internet hiatus as well. I’m removing email, facebook, reddit, and all my podcast apps from my phone for the week to try and sit back and relax. Don’t worry instagram friends, that’s the one thing that I’ll keep going this week.
For now, here are a slew of links that I loved checking out and reading this week. Additionally below I’ve pulled together a bunch of older posts that I’ve loved writing over the years for your enjoyment. See you next week, Hart Beat
We did it, Hart Beat! We made it to the end of the week. I am so happy because, as I detailed before, my best friends from high school are coming in and we’re having an entire weekend in Brooklyn. For those of you who are headed to the beach or have some traveling time, here are five articles and links that I loved reading this week. Hope you all have an amazing weekend!
