Shakey Graves, you and I both know

Oh Hart Beat. You know that feeling when you meet someone and you just can’t get enough of them? You want to see them in the morning, you text them all day and then when you see them it’s just rainbows and cupcakes over and over again. Well, tonight that feeling will come to you via Hart Beat and via the amazing artist Shakey Graves.

I came across Shakey Graves aka Alejandro Rose-Garcia on my internet wanderings and now I can’t get enough of him. The Texan artist has been on the scene for a few years now and I can’t believe this is the first I’m hearing his music. According to critics, the one man act Shakey Graces plays “unique blues-infused flapicking style with a voice that can flicker from a fragile whisper to a startling howl.:
Unfortunetly, Shakey Graves is another one of those artists who has not made the way to Spotify. This really bums me out because all I want to do on my morning commute is listen to his amazing voice and obsessive beat. Hey Mr. Rose-Garcia, help a girl out and put some tracks on there please?
I hope you like Shakey Graves as much as I do and give these two tracks a listen. If you want more all you have to do is go to youtube and search a way. There are so many amazing live songs that I had a hard time picking ones to put here.
P.S. You think Alejandro looks familair. Does sometime along the lines of The Swede sound familiar. Yup, that’s right. Alejandro played Julie Taylors older (swedish?) lover on Friday Night Lights once upon a time. You’re welcome internet.
And one more, just for good luck…

The Civil Wars cover The King

Hi Hart Beat. I know that The Civil Wars feature pretty often here on the blog but I have another cover by the duo that I thought you would like to hear. I thought of you immediately and can’t get enough of the Michael Jackson tribute. What do you think? Do they do the king justice? The sexual tension between these two is palpable. For more of The Civil Wars click here, here and as always, the entire playlist from the blog here.

Brooklyn’s Aly Tadros

Hi Hart Beat. I am so happy to share this song with you tonight. This is one of my favorites lately, and the best part? Aly Tadros is a fellow Brooklyn resident! We actually met last spring in the my Brooklyn running group and ever since looking her music up after meeting, I can’t stop listening. Not only is Aly an amazing artist but also the nicest person ever. This year Aly and fellow musician Ben Balmer released the song “Whim” that they co-wrote together. I am floored Hart Beat, I love this song so much. Aly’s playing in Manhattan on Saturday night, who wants to come with?

Lily & Madeleine sing for you

Two posts in one night, crazy world Hart Beat. For those that don’t follow my amazing twitter, NPR’s All Songs Considered this week was pretty unbeatable. I honestly can’t wait for the new albums (Cults, The Avett Brothers, Kishi Bashi) to release.

One artist who I hadn’t heard before is now taking over my Spotify play time like it’s October of 2012 and honeyhoney came out with a new album. Anyway, just listen to this track and get excited for the new album, Hart Beat.

If only my feet could fall as fast as a heart does
I would be so long gone
But I’m stuck, stuck under your thumb
I can’t get up
I can’t get up, I can’t get up

PS. The harmonizing in this song remind me of this amazing cover.
Call your girlfriend.

Oh my sweet Carolina, What compels me to go

Hi. Funny how I thought I would take a little break this memorial day weekend. I guess I had more to write to you than I thought. As you loyal readers know, as of late I’ve been a huge Emmylou Harris fan and I was so happy to find this duet that Ryan Adams sings with her. How did I not know about Ryan Adams either? You’ve got to fill me in on these things, Hart Beat.

Up here in the city feels like things are closing in
The sunsets just my light bulb burning out
I miss Kentucky and I miss my family
All the sweetest winds they blow across the south
Oh my sweet Carolina, what compels me to go

I live off love, I feed off love, I breathe off love

I love this song. I found it last night while browsing around Spotify related artists (one of my favorite things to do.) This one band came up somehow with some connection and I immediately feel for this song. Can you blame me?

I live off love
I feed off love
I breathe off love
I think of love
I drink of love
I sink in love
And in the middle of the night I need my love
I need to grieve and need to need and be in love
My love is gonna come to me tonight

I give my love and all my love to you, my love
I feast on love, a beast for love, release my love
You’re scared and unprepared for love, don’t care my love
Cause you’re the only woman I’ve been dreaming of
I swear to got I’m loving you for life
I swear to god I’m making you my wife
The song is called “Beauty” and is sung by husband and wife duo Carey Kemper and Kelly Bell in their band called The Shivers. According the the Spotify bio, these two pretty much lived as nomads, driving around the country in their RV homeschooling their two children and recording songs here and there while on the road. And voila, an amazing story with an amazing song.

Girl from the north country

Last night my amazing friend M. and I saw the movie “Silver Linings Playlist” at the Angelika. I had wanted to see the movie since it came out and I absolutely loved it. One of my favorite parts was a scene in which Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence were sitting listening to this song here. The original Bob Dylan version of this song is one of my favorites of all time but I had never heard the version of Bob and Johnny Cash singing together. This duet is making my day, Hart Beat.

If you’re traveling in the north country fair
Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline
Remember me to one who lives there
She once was the true love of mine

Otis and Carla

I’ve got another little song for you. I’ve shared Otis Redding here on Hart Beat before (as the most romantic song) and I have another uber romantic song for you now. This one is (bonus) a duet so you can imagine yourself singing with that special someone in your life.
If you ever change your mind
About leaving, leaving me behind
Bring it to me,
bring your sweet loving,
bring it on home to me, yeah
