The New Cool Kids from Madewell, December Edition

Hi Hart Beat! I have something to admit… I have been doing some online shopping. In even more honesty, it’s more than I should be doing because what I should be doing is buying the rest of the Christmas gifts on my list. But I can’t help myself! This season everyone I love is having sales. And this is not excluding Madewell (who at this very minute is having 25% off their entire site as a “thank you to procrastinators” aka “here you go buy everything you’ve wanted all year because it’s Wednesday night and lalala it’s the holidays.” (Code is LATEBIRD.)

Anyway, I made a pretty big order over Cyber Monday and so I thought I’d share some of the things that I honest to god love so much. First up, up top and #3 in the grid below, these plaid pajamas. Madewell calls them “Flannel Bedtime Pajamas” and they are my favorite thing right now. The only two reviews on the site claim that the pants are too wide but WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE? The pants are perfect. I’m wearing them right now. And the pajama top! I won’t go on because there are other things I want to talk about but it’s the cutest and most comfortable thing I’ve bought in a while and I get so sad every morning when I take it off before I go to work. I’ll be honest, I’ve definitely considered just wearing it to the office. Now I officially cannot. #whatever

And here’s a rundown of the rest: #1 = THE body suite I’ve been pinning about since the summer. It’s this amazing sweater material that’s not too hot, not too cold. Almost as if goldilocks were a sexy body suit. #2 = the most comfortable beanie in the most flattering color. I feel like a tall Swedish babe when I wear it and I don’t think I ever want to feel anything else ever again. And #4 = Another sweater. Why? Because it’s December and I already hate the winter and my attempt to fix this feeling is by bundling myself up with the softest things ever until April when I remember again when I love this city. Anything you’re loving from Madewell or anywhere else right now?

I’m 😍😍😍 (goo-goo eyes) for Levis

Ohhhh Hart Beat. I’m starting to realize that my days of biddie skirts and skin tight pants are behind me. I dress differently now than I did at 21. Okay, maybe this isn’t a surprise. I still have my iconic scarf collection and am still wearing mostly black (some things can never change) but all in all, the garb that I threw on every day in college has transitioned into something more… comfortable or classic as I would prefer. The realization has come slowly but surely over the years and has been cemented recently when I discovered I was borrowing Pedro’s clothes more and more.

I’m taller than Pedro but even so, he and I generally wear the same size in clothes. Aside from sneakers (because I don’t have a death wish) I borrow most of his things, including his Levis—for the legitimate boyfriend jean look. I realized it was time for me to invest in some of my own vintage Levis and I was in luck a few weekends ago when I walked by a pop-up space in Greenpoint that had exclusively piles and piles of vintage Levis. As you can see below, there were lots to pick from and lucky for me the owner of the store helped me pick out a bunch. I had one of Pedro’s pairs on at the time so I could show him the effect I was looking for in the pants. After about five minutes BOOM, I had my perfect pair.

These bad boys are short in the length so I can show my shoes (YUP) and slowchy enough to constitute boyfriend jeans. (#lifewin) Are you with me in the boyfriend jean boat, Hart Beat? Do you have a place you like to buy vintage Levis? Does my butt look good in these pants? Jkjkjk, you don’t have to answer that, I know I’m rocking the mom jean here.

The Victors & Vanquished

Hi Hart Beat. I have great news! The blog that my boyfriend, Pedro, and I have been working on for the past two months is finally ready to launch! When Pedro and I first started dating one of the things that we had in common was that he and I both write our own lifestyle blogs (he writes solesirius.com and I have Hart Beat here.) We were always talking about ideas we each had for the other and about three months ago, we started talking about starting a project together.

After a lot of discussion of the kind of project we wanted to start (an ecommerce site, a relationship blog, a photo collection) we finally decided to focus on what we both love – fashion, design, music and up-and-coming brands. Pedro came up with the name, The Victors & Vanquished, and I came up with the idea of signing off each post “from him” or “from her” so that we can give our readers and “his and hers” perspective on what we’re writing about.

So far we’ve done posts on upcoming men’s and women’s collections released by Woolrich, Original Penguin and Everlane, music albums by Father John Misty and Wu-Tang Clan, and design by Max Wagner and Artifact Uprising. It’s super exciting and we have so many ideas for the new year. It’s been a team effort to get the blog going (huge shout-out to Marina for designing our logo) and I hope that you love reading it as much as you love reading Hart Beat! Follow us on Twitter, Instagram (coming soon) and Facebook for updates on all our posts! Plus, I’ve included a handy little icon here on the side that will link you right away to The V&V! Happy reading, Hart Beat.

Celebrate! Penfield at Madewell!

It’s a great day!!! And it’s not only because today is the first October but because I just got an email notification yesterday that my favorite Madewell will be carrying the amazing brand Penfield this fall/winter! Last year I had my eye on the brand and this year, I am on the hunt for a new winter coat and I think that I might finally have to invest in one of these bad boys…

From top to bottom:

The perfect fall jacket

Hi Hart Beat. I know that it is CRAZY hot out today and this first week of September is not behaving at all like it should for the beginning of fall buuuutttt, let’s talk about this coat, shall we? I’ve been on the look out for the perfect fall/winter coat for this new year and have been haunting brands’ websites like Penfield and Woolrich for the holy grail. Obviously, the coat is made by my twin Emerson Fry. Don’t you love this Combo Parka? It’s expensive but I’m obsessed and I think that I need it for this winter.

I love all of Emerson Fry’s clothes and I wish that I could own the entire line. Everything is so well made and designed so perfectly that I just drool over her whole website. Also, THESE SHOES. Now I need a pair and there are none left in the galaxy in my size. Curse you big feet!!!

Valentine, the lingerie edition

Hi Hart Beat. I have something excited to share with some of you ladies out there. Over the weekend I was hanging out with some good friends of mine and we got started talking about bras. What else, Hart Beat? My friends were all asking where they could find beautiful, (relatively) affordable lacy bras for small chested women. We all wanted to feel as attractive as the women at www.escortguide.co.uk! While this is not, ahem, something I think about that often, I have an answer for all of you similarly endowed ladies out there. Let’s talk about Valentine!

The lingerie line Valentine was created by two friends Whitney Brown and Paloma Jones. Apparently the two (ex)models bonded over the need for “cool, comfortable, and affordable lingerie – especially for women with smaller busts.” There you go ladies! Straight from the horses er, models, mouth! Of course there are designs suitable for more busty ladies such as Babestations Terrie Hawkes too. They are a brand all about celebrating women of all cup sizes.

Whitney and Paloma now design a lifestyle brand and showcase their work in New York, L.A. and parts of Europe. The line was apparently created from the blog that the two wrote together:

“People featured on the V-blog are asked to share very private details through a series of 10 questions: first kiss, secret affairs, best pickup lines, hidden crushes, bad habits, the first time you said (or heard), ‘I love you,’ the craziest thing you’ve done in the name of love, and more. It’s all part of Valentine’s lofty ambition to revive romance, especially in the lives of hyper-busy young millennials.”

Their site has a great online shop, as well as their baller blog. I love the idea for the collection and where these women are coming from. And that name, Valentine, come on Hart Beat. Can we get a that’s right over here?

What I (wish I) wore

Oh hey there Hart Beat. What are you doing this lovely Tuesday night? I’m catching up on some things in my apartment and thought I would share some outfit dreams I’ve been having lately. This is bad news bears, Hart Beat. I really shouldn’t want or need any more clothes… Alternatively, I think I need to start dreaming in more color and less in neutral tones.
