Ohh, Childish

Hey Hart Beat. Happy Sunday night. Not. But whatever. Tomorrow morning means a commute but it also means listening to my favorite man right now (sorry P). Back in college I was lucky enough to see Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino aka my baby daddy preform at Bowdoin’s spring concert. Bates didn’t get him to make it over to Lewiston (our loss) but my friends and I did drive over to Brunswick and stood in the front row for Gambino’s show back in 2012. Good times.

Anyway, for those of you who don’t know, Childish Gambino I’ve got two songs for you here. The first is an Adele Cover featuring Jamie xx and Childish Gambino. He played this live and it’s still one of my favorites. The second, Sober,
is my favorite song from his newest album “STN MTN / Kauai.” So long story short, if you’re not listening to Childish Gambino now, that needs to change ASAP.

The heist

Hey Hart Beat. Happy Saturday! Last night G, H and Moses and I had the best time going to a comedy show on the lower east side. Have I mentioned that I love New York? Country mouse turning into city mouse over here.
For the past couple days I’ve been obsessively listening to “The Heist,” the newest album from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. This album is so good and I can’t believe these guys came to Bates during my Junior year. Way to go Bates, and way to go Macklemore and Ryan. This whole album is amazing, it’s hard for me to figure out my favorite song. What do you think Hart Beat?
And on and on and on we go
We love who we are but now it’s gone
Let’s leave before we eat each other alive
You are the love of my life

“Thin Line” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

Tomorrow

Well Hart Beat, the day has come, tomorrow is graduation at Bates College. Today felt like kind of a mini graduation as the entire class sat in the hot sun for Baccalaureate. I think Nancy Cable may have made one of the best speeches I’ve ever heard and I’ll be surprised if tomorrow any of the Commencement speakers top her. It’s too sad to think about leaving Bates tomorrow so I’ll just post a song here that I’ve been listening to mucho lately in hopes that all you readers out there like it.

The Graduate

Elaine? Nope, sorry, this isn’t a post about the movie version of “The Graduate,” this is a post about the true life version of “The Graduate: Bates College Edition.” It’s coming up, believe it or not, graduation at Bates is a little over a week away. The school is slowly starting to prepare for the big day and I’m not entirely sure how I feel about the approaching day.

Bates has some pretty interesting traditions, not really surprising, concerning graduation and graduation weekend. Lots of costumes, lots of all nighters and lots of parents. I’m not really sure what this post is about seeing as I’m not really sure how I feel about the upcoming day. I guess I’ll have to update you on the details as the day approaches and flies by this next week.

For those of you dear readers of Hart Beat, Bates has an open graduation and all are welcome. To entice you even more our commencement speakers this year are none other than Robert De Niro, Gwen Ifill and Bonnie Bassler. I think May 27th is set to be a pretty good day. Hasta luego Hart Beat.

Santah: Another concert at Bates

Hokay, so, Bates has been having tons of concerts this short term. And guess what! There’s another one coming up this weekend and I am oh so excited. The band coming to Ronjstock on Saturday is called Santah and I actually published a video of the group singing a couple of weeks ago here on Hart Beat. The song “Teeth” which was posted has been one of my favorite songs this year and I am so excited to hear them live.

In preparation for the event on Saturday (which also is going to be featuring some amazing Bates own musicians) I have been listening to Santah’s album White Noise Red and would recommend you do the same to get ready for this Saturday. Here’s just one little sample for you today Hart Beat:

“Chips of Pain” by Santah
And, of course I couldn’t resist, the beautiful song “Teeth” from the Big Ugly Yellow Couch.
