Hi Hart Beat! I have a fun new series I want to share with you! On the heels of my trip to Costa Rica, I’ve decided that while I’m living here in Brooklyn I am going to start scouring Airbnb for the best places to stay around the world. Why? Because I love to travel and while I’m in a great city for the moment I’m going to vicariously live through the internet.
The first stop in this series is (obviously) Madrid. In 2011 I studied abroad in Madrid, attending the Universidad Complutense and living in the college dorms. It was one of the best times in my life and since that winter and spring, I’ve been back twice. It’s hard to admit but it’s been SIX YEARS (Lordy, Lordy) since the first time I was there. I still remember that city like the back of my hand and so, I feel semi-qualified to tell you where to stay if you go there.
First of all, stay in the neighborhood of Malasaña, in the northern part of the center city, because, a) it’s a beautiful apartment, b) it’s where all my favorite bars are and c) it’s a great central location. I scouted out this gorgeous Madrid Airbnb to stay in that is situated right on the pedestrian shopping street of Fuencarral.
Isn’t it amazing? Those floors! Those balconies! The apartment is huge. It boasts four bedrooms and can sleep up to 14 people. For a central Marid apartment that’s pretty amazing. My favorite part is the huge farm table in the sun-filled dining room. I can see me and my friends sitting around playing cards and drinking boxed wine. If I close my eyes I can almost taste the Jamon y Manchego.
I call this ^^ bedroom.
There are so many great recommendations around that neighborhood that it’s hard to even start listing them. All I’ll say is you should 100% check out Red Bar and ask Antonio to make you a mojito. I promise you won’t have any regrets.
Where do you want to see next in this series? Taking suggestions, Hart Beat!
