I am a lucky girl. My favorite brother H. is studying abroad in London right now and he has been sending me and G. the best postcards from his travels. The other day I came home from work and saw that I had a package from H.!
Yes! That’s right! H. got me the screenplay for “Before Sunrise” and “Before Sunset.” Not only that but he got them for me from Shakespeare and Company in Paris, where the first scene of “Before Sunset” takes place. As you may know from reading Hart Beat, these two movies are two of my favorite movies of all time. If you haven’t seen them, you really should invest some time Hart Beat.
What if you’re grandmother had lived another week, or died a week earlier, maybe days? Things might have been very different. I believe that.
But you can’t think like that.
I know you shouldn’t on most things, but on this one, something was off. Forgive me this, but in the moths leading up to my wedding, I was thinking of you all the time. And on the way there, I’m in the car with a buddy of mine, staring out the window as he drove downtown. It was raining, and I thought I saw you, not far from the church, folding up an umbrella, walking into a deli on the corner of Broadway and about Thirteenth. I thought I was hallucinating, and now I know it was probably you!
I lived on Fifteenth and University.
See, I’m not crazy.
