New york and joan didion

Last week while I was in New York I was wandering around and found myself in Washington Square Park. While I was there I saw this quote chalked into the ground in front of the arch. I love Joan Didion and I was so happy to see this sprawled on the ground in front of me.

I was in love with New York.
I do not mean ‘love’ in any colloquial way,
I mean that I was in love with the city,
the way you love the first person who ever touches
you and you never love anyone
quite that way again.
– Joan Didion

Blue moon month

So Hart Beat, guess what tomorrow is? Yes! How did you know? Tomorrow we are all going to be experiencing a lovely blue moon. What this means is that this month we have had two full moons in one month. There is nothing more romantic than a full moon and a blue moon just multiplies the romance ten fold. I hope you enjoy it tomorrow night. Until then, here is a beautiful song by Cat Power.

Love’s confusing joy

(Source)

“If you want what visible reality

can give, you’re an employee.
If you want the unseen world,
you’re not living your truth.
Both wishes are foolish,
but you’ll be forgiven for forgetting
that what you really want is
love’s confusing joy.”

Brand new the band

Hi. I have a brand new song for you (ha). I was in New York for a while getting my life together and heard a song by the band Brand New on a radio show I like to listen to. Anyway, it got me listening to the band and mostly, their album Deja Entendu. I remember a friend in high school telling me I would love this band. I guess I’m about eight years too late but I finally have come around. I hope you like this one.
This story’s old but it goes on and on
until we disappear.
Calm me and let me taste the salt you breathed while you were underneath.
I am the one who haunts your dreams of mountains sunk below the sea.
I spoke the words but never gave a thought to what they all could mean.

“Play Crack the Sky” by Brand New
(For some reason, this song reminds me so much of this one here.)

San Francisco

I know a couple of weeks ago I posted some pretty big news about my post-grad plans. When I wrote the post about moving out to San Francisco I was so excited to get off the east coast and explore a part of the country I had never been to before.
Now, I have some new news Hart Beat. I did go to San Francisco and I tried to love the city. It is such a beautiful and lively place I was pretty heartbroken not to feel that instant attraction that I was hoping for. I know that true love’s don’t come around that often but I was really hoping to fall for San Francisco the same way I had fallen for Madrid and New York. What I felt instead was isolated from all the people I love and a constant aching to return to the east coast and make the move south to New York City. Luckily, I was able to pick up pretty fast and change plans. Before I left though, I did take some pictures and I want to share them all with you.
So I’m sorry to all of you out there who were excited to hear all about San Francisco. All I can say is that it was an adventure and I hope to move back some day and for now enjoy planning out the next adventure.
