Blue Valentine

I did it, I finally watched the movie. Way back in January I wrote about the movie “Blue Valentine” and make a pinky promise to you readers out there that I would report back after I watched it. Well, I’m kind of speechless right now, the movie took my breath away. I had waited a long time to watch “Blue Valentine” since the subject matter is pretty heart breaking and I was on the mend myself, but I’ve known all along  I needed to watch it since my mom saw the movie back in January and told me that it was one everyone needed to see. Well, all I can say is I would give the same recommendation to all you readers as well.

My favorite song from this movie was posted in February’s valentines day countdown, and here is my all time favorite that Ryan sings in the movie to Michelle.

And here are some wise words from the movie spoken by Ryan. The man just about kills me.
I don’t know, I just feel like I should just stop thinking about it, you know, but I can’t. Maybe I’ve seen too many movies, you know, love at first sight. What do you think about love at first sight? You think you can love somebody just by looking at them? But the thing is man, I felt like I knew her, you ever get that feeling? Yeah, I probably don’t right… it felt like I did though. She just seems different, you know? I don’t know, I just got a feeling about her. You know when a song comes on and you just gotta dance?

G-Eazy at Bates

Long time no see Hart Beat. I hope you missed the blog here and for this first post in a while I want to share some exciting news. This may be a little late, but last weekend Bates College had an all day outdoor concert to celebrate… Spring? Short Term? Lewiston? Whatever.

Anyway, one of the acts that came to play was this amazing rapper called G-Eazy. Actually, G featured on Hart Beat way back in March. Let’s just put it this way, I was very excited to hear this concert and want to say that G played to all my expectations and more. The icing on the cake was I was serenaded “Marilyn” from the front row. Be still my beating heart, I could hardly stand after I was so undone. To keep you listening to G-Eazy, here’s one of his newer songs.

G-Eazy’s ‘Runaround Sue ft. Greg Banks”
And as a little shout out, a picture of me and G at his concert in Maine.
And (top) G singing (shout out: both of these photos were taken by friends of mine at Bates).

Hopeless romantic

This weekend is a big weekend for lots of my friends, graduating from college, getting jobs, you know, the whole life thing. Well, this weekend of May 11th not much is going on at Bates. There is a concert tomorrow and I’ll write about some of the bands playing tomorrow. Now though, I want to share this song with you Hart Beat. I can’t believe how fast the time goes by.

Zac Brown Band’s “Colder Weather”
Thanks to a great friend showing me this song last week, I haven’t been able to stop listening to it all week long and I think it’s time I put it here on this blog. Also, here are some lovely, hopeless romantic style quotes that I’ve found over the internet and want to share with you here too. Hasta luego Hart Beat.

500 days

Well, I feel like this post has been coming for a long time. Zooey Deschanel has featured heavily on Hart Beat since the beginning days and this Thursday, as one of my friends from high school is visiting Bates, we’re spending the rainy day watching this ever classic romantic movie that profiles Zooey and Joseph. So, right now, in the midst of “500 Days of Summer,” I am blogging at you Hart Beat. Here’s the amazing trailer if you haven’t seen it:

I guess I could write for days about the greatness of this movie, but I guess the best incentive to write is that this movie hurts so much to watch because it really does feel like real life. I guess the director and actors did a good job. I also love the clothes and music. Really though, is that a surprise for Hart Beat?
I have two little extras for you today about this movie. The first is a really funny and ironic Thought Catalog article that I read this morning about the appeal of Zooey. You can read it here. The second is a video of these two amazing actors dancing to a number to promote the movie 500 Days. I hope you like it.

Tallest man on earth

About a week ago I posted a song by the great artist Tallest Man on Earth. This past weekend my friends and I spent some quality time on the lake close to Bates and one of my friends played this older song by Tallest Man, I instantly fell in love. Don’t you love that instant taking that comes with a beautiful song? Sometimes it reminds me of love at first sight, the way you become protective and obsessed with some silly piece of music. Whatever, I’m in love right now.
