Love you friday

Hi Hart Beat. How are you today? I know I’ve been posting a lot of love letters here lately, but as we’re all hopeless romantics here at the beat, I’m sure you don’t mind. A shout out to “Letters of Note” again for this lovely love letter. See what I did there? This one is by Mark Twain (Samuel Clemons) to his wife, Olivia.
Hartford, Nov. 27/28
Livy Darling, I am grateful — gratefuler than ever before — that you were born, & that your love is mine & our two lives woven & welded together!

Johnny Depp and Dark Shadows

I love Johnny Depp. Yes, I know, this isn’t a really big revelation. And no, this post isn’t going to be another love letter circa a Mr. John Cusack. So, I was pretty excited when I saw the trailer to this amazing movie coming out soon. Here’s the trailer for Dark Shadows:

I was laughing when I saw this trailer (yes, you guessed it, while I was waiting for Peeta to make his debut in Hunger Games). Anyway, I can’t wait to see this one in theaters. Some time I should do my top five Johnny Depp movies, you know Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Benny and Joon. Maybe do one for Helena Bonham Carter while I’m at it. She’s in Dark Shadows if you didn’t pick up on it.
Seriously…. how can you not love this man?

You’re so sweet

Found a little song for you tonight. I hope you like it and the music video for the song. This one is called “Chair” and is sung by Big Deal.

Only want me for my looks
Only want me for the songs that I write about you
About how I like you
You don’t trust me to sit on your bed
Put me on a chair in a corner instead
I’m just hoping you slip up
Miss a step, stop being sensible
And fall into my arms
Don’t you wanna have that morning again
Wanna be your lover and try not to be your friend.

Photographs by Stephen K. Schuster

One of my favorite blogs, A Cup of Jo, talked about wedding kisses today. In her post Jo mentioned a couple of very romantic city hall weddings. Through this post I was able to find a great photographer, Stephen K. Schuster, and some of his photos. I wanted to share some of my favorites here with you on Hart Beat.

The first four are found in the artist’s collection entitled
“Forever and Ever” on his website here.
The last is from A Cup Of Jo on this post here.

Florence and Italy, can it get any better?

My Sophomore year I remember a very good friend of mine posting a song on Facebook and becoming obsessed with it for a couple of months after. The song, well, you guessed it, it’s the song here! This is the ever great Florence and the Machine singing a cover of the great Beirut song “Postcards from Italy”

As much as I love the original Beirut song, I think that Florence does a great job of covering it here. Also, the whole thing just makes me want to go back to Europe. Soon.

Frank Ocean

Some friends are making cookies at my house! Just a little heads up for those of you in Ladd tonight. Anyway, I want to share a little song with you tonight. It may look familiar when you first look at the title, but I promise it’s not the Coldplay version. Just listen and you won’t be disappointed.

Frank Ocean – “Strawberry Swing”

What do you think? Great, right? Frank Ocean does some pretty interesting things. I would definitely recommend looking him up. I thought this video was pretty cool too, it reminded me of Mad Men. So many favorite things!

Modern love

Came across this lovely list of questions and answers and thought it was really Hart Beat appropriate. I am a big believer in doing what you want and taking initiative, especially in today’s modern dating world. What do you think of this list? Pretty inspirational, huh? My belief is you’re not going to get what you want unless you ask for it and if the answer is no, at least you can then move on with your life. I feel like I should print out this list and just dish it out in commons. Haha, Bates would love that.

Thelma & Louise

Have you seen this movie before? I was surprised the other day in my english class when I mentioned it and everyone looked at me like I had mentioned some indie-forgein film (which, yes I know, I do tend to mention a lot). Anyway, I hadn’t. I mentioned the amazing 1991 movie “Thelma & Louise” and everyone, not just my professor should have looked at me with great understanding.

There’s an inside joke between me, my dad and my mom that every time my mom and I go off together we turn into Thelma and Louise. I wish. Mostly because I wish I could be Geena Davis and my mom has always reminded me of Susan Sarandon. Also, I always hope that I’ll run into a young Brad Pitt on adventures with my mom. Don’t you? He was looking fiiiine back in 1991.

“Thelma & Louise” is an amazing example of Youth Movies done right, and furthermore, one that can definitely change your life. It’s been too long since I’ve seen it. And if you have never seen it then I highly, highly recommend it.

“Wind up the world the other way…”

Another love letter! And yes… it comes from the amazing website “Letters of Note“. This letter here is written by Charlie ‘Bird’ Parker to his long term lover Chan Woods. This letter grabbed me the first time I read it and I keep thinking about the words. It’s so unbelievably poetic and romantic and articulates so much the way that I feel. I hope you like it as much as I do.

To you;

The way I thought was wrong, having not known, it was right. Here is the proof of my feelings, Don’t hate me, love me forever: — — — —

Beautiful is the world, slow is one to take advantage. Wind up the world the other way. And at the start of the turning of the earth, lie my feelings for thou.

To you
Shame on me.
I love you.
