How excited are you? This upcoming Sunday is one of the best nights of the year for all you movie lovers out there. I love sharing movie trailers with you and a couple weeks back I talked about a website dedicated to the Oscars that my mom showed me.
Here is the official 2012 Oscar website. Personally, I am rooting for “Midnight in Paris” and Michelle Williams. Of course, I also can’t wait to see the dresses. Look in a couple of days for a post here at Hart Beat for my favorite dresses of Oscars past.
Have you gone on any trips lately? I’m taking this February break to visit my brother in Washington D.C. I love going on vacation and flying. The last time I was on a plane was in September and I am so excited to be going somewhere now!
One thing that always stoops me when traveling is how to pack. Now that planes only let you bring a few things carry on and are charged to check any bags I’m always at a loss.
What’s your favorite luggage to travel with? I’m going to be doing some traveling this summer and would love some recommendations! For you semester abroad last year I bought a backpack from an army surplus store. The bag held up really well but I wonder if for longer trips I’ll need something bigger.
I guess it’s a comedy filled day, first Arrested Development and now dogs on things. I came across this blog today called “Maddie the Coonhound” and thought it was so cute that I had to share it right away. How do they get this dog to do these things?!? If you visit the website you can see Maddie perched on more random things…
Have you seen the show “Arrested Development“? It is hilarious. They only made three seasons and I would definitely recommend starting from the beginning. Plus, it’s on instant viewing on Netflix. I haven’t watched the show in a while but I thought that both of these pictures from the show were hilarious.
This short film here is from the movie “Paris Je t’aime” (which is great and you should see it by the way if you haven’t already). The movie is a collection of short films about Paris all directed and staring different people. This is my favorite short film from the collection. It just breaks my heart, in a good way, if that’s at all possible. Watch it and tell me what you think.
Time went by, time flew, and everything seemed so simple, so free, so new, so unique. We went to the movies, we went dancing, we went shopping, we laughed, you cried, we swam, we smoked, we shaved. Now and then you screamed, for no reason, or for a reason. Yes, sometimes for a reason.
I know that I have been posting a lot of movie trailers lately, but Bates is on February break and watching movies in front of a fire in February is probably one of the most romantic and lovely things to do. The movie I wanted to recommend today is called “Midnight in Paris.” It’s Woody Allen’s new movie and it came out over the summer. Here is the trailer:
It looks really good doesn’t it? I just loved in in theaters and desperately want to see it again. Owen Wilson is amazing and I loved all of the references to 1920’s artists. (Lorca’s, shout-out to my thesis here, contemporaries Buñel and Dalí are in it. I loved it.)
The beginning of the movie is amazing as it has clips from all around Paris. It made me want to go back so badly! Here are some of the pictures that I took when I was in Paris last spring.
In the past couple of days I have written a couple posts about acoustic versions of songs I really love. One was by the band Fun. and the other was a cover of a song by The Barr Brothers. Today I have another one for you.
A really great website for finding acoustic covers of great songs is called Big Ugly Yellow Couch. The song that I discovered a couple of days ago is sung by a new band called Santah. Their song is called “Teeth” and apparently it will be on their cd that will be released this spring.
Amazing, right? I thought you would really like this. It reminds me a little of Wilco combined with the guitar of Beirut.
Here’s a great quote about the song from Caryle Wiesl of Big Ugly Couch:
“Teeth” is everything you want in a love song — it’s gorgeous, it’s crushing, and it makes you feel everything at once. When the song swells, it echoes the yearning and the sorrow of a tumultuous relationship. This isn’t about some pie-in-the-sky kind of love — this one’s real, and it cuts deep.
I know, I know, it’s February. And February is winter. Whatever. This semi-warm weather has gotten me thinking about spring clothes. Later this week my mom and I are going on a little shopping trip. Maybe I’ll pick up some spring dresses. Don’t you like these here?
“Before Sunset” is the 2004 follow up to one of the most romantically, heartbreaking films of the 90’s. The movie is shot in real time and follows Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke as they reunite in Paris, after nine years. This is one of my absolute favorite movies and I have had the movie poster in my room since high school.
Here is the trailer:
I don’t want to talk too much about the movie since I really think that everyone reading Hart Beat should see it. It’s a short movie and I promise, every second is unbelievably well acted and more true to real life than any movie I have ever seen. So take a break after midterms, and escape to Paris with this amazing movie.
There are so many scenes in this movie that I want to call my favorite (the two of them on the boat, Julie Delpy’s rant in the taxi cab). However, the ending definitely takes the cake. I won’t post it here so as not to give away what happens, but here is the amazing song that is played. I could listen to this song on repeat all day long.
One of my favorite things about starting the new school year is decorating my new room. Yes, I did just say that. Can you believe that Hart Beat likes to decorate? I can. One of my favorite things to put up in any space are room lights. As of late, those room lights have been strictly the Philips Hue – but I won’t be covering that today..
This is the overhead light I have above my bed at Bates. It’s a pretty common style light it comes in all shapes and sizes.
There are lots of different approaches to mood lighting. There is only one bit of advice that I want to share with you today. Other than that Hart Beat is just here to inspire you. Don’t get a floor lamp. Just, don’t. I’ve never seen a floor light that I’ve liked. If you have, please, post it here and I’ll retract that statement.
I used to have a really pretty set of Christmas tree lights in my dorm room that had these pretty white flowers attached, like the ones in the picture. It made regular old white lights special and so romantic.
A globe chandelier. This is a really cool idea and this blog here shows you how to do it.
I really love the look of a flickering candle but am a little paranoid of the little candle burning down the whole house. So, I found somewhere where you can buy battery powered candle’s. Yea, I know it sounds crazy and weird but they are so cool.
The best part about it is that it flickers and smells like vanilla. This picture doesn’t really do it justice.
And here are some pretty pictures for inspiration.
